that the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor is not a hot rod. He seems to have this idea that they have 400 something horsepower when I told him that they have like 250 and are not very fast at all he actually got upset.
Also when I drive I tend to keep my RPMs above 2000 rpm at all times because below that the engine feels bogged down, anyways I down shifted and the engine went to 2300-ish rpm and he started telling me that I was killing my car. I love the man but God he knows nothing about cars.

even all these years later, I still know one thing. Your parents are made to drive you around, no matter how old you are. Let them do it and you will be happy in life

as offroadkarter will tell you, this HP issue is easily remedied by Mr. Eaton.

Heck, it wasn't until today that I recognized a Marauder in the wild. This site is educational!

Somebody once told me that police-spec crown vics could do 200 MPH. He was rather large so I didn't argue though...

I have actually never seen a marauder in the wild! Though I might of and thought that it was just a mercury grand marquis

Well, I will say I drove past a parking lot and saw a Marauder grille. I was unable to confirm anything else.

He might of meant KPH... I hope.

2300 RPM?!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! ARE YOU NUTS?!

Was he also upset when you told him the sky isn't green?

Yup. 8.something seconds 0-60.
I can outrun one in my 2.5l Alfa with ease.
One mind you. Choppers are trickier. I'll have to defer to my GTA playing colleagues for that one.

My dad does the same thing "Stop revving the engine, you are destroying it." Here I am thinking that 3,500 isn't too high the RPM range.

Parents are funny, my mother always has stories about her blowing past corvettes in her v6mustang/tahoe/explorer/750il over the past 25 years of my life. She however barely drives over the speed limit and gets scared in any manual I've ever driven as long as the rpm's are up. First gear 35 mph 5000rpm is terrifying to her.

There are two answers that solve everything in life. They are "Yes Dear" and supercharging something.

Sorry dad. It's true. They do have heavier duty things like trans, alternator, cooling system, battery. But not much power.

In fairness to your dad, the CVPI was about the closest thing you could get to a real muscle car for years and years (full-size, discounting pony cars). Full-size car with performance, V8, RWD, BOF in the American tradition. Just because a relatively high level of stock performance in a full-size got surpassed recently, doesn't take away from what it is/was.

Being that I've owned a PI Crown Vic, I've heard a bunch of BS about it.
Best one was when someone asked me if it had "the Corvette Motor" in it, She was a cute girl, so I just said "not really..."

Until 2005 the top speed for Crown Vic Interceptors was 150 mph, then Ford redesigned the driveshaft and theoretically dropped it to 140 mph. But all the straight line tests in the world couldn't get it much above 120 mph.

In the small city I work there used to be a couple and there is still one left that I see all the time. The guy has had it since new and it's always been a daily driver for him, so it's starting to look a little rough.

My dad won't rev either of my cars past 7k RPM, and here I am thinking that's silly. Sorry man, sorry. :(
![]() 11/15/2013 at 16:58 |

That's one of the things I hated about having one.
"Did they keep the chip in it?"
"Does it still have the cop motor?"
Etc.

You just gotta show 'em an S2000 or a Mini with a Busa swap. Life begins at +8k

I don't know past 2005 but all Panther cars have an electronic limiter at 131mph.
![]() 11/16/2013 at 16:31 |
|
Yeah, but the police spec ones had it raised to 150
![]() 11/16/2013 at 17:58 |

No. I have a 2000 P71 and it's limited to 131mph. I've hit that many times riding with my friend's R1 and the car will not go past it, even on a downhill.
![]() 11/16/2013 at 18:03 |

Just an example. After some more reading, apparently if you changed the rear end ratio without resetting the computer, it will let you do 140mph which is how the Highway Patrol P71s were set up with a 3.27:1 ratio.

My mistake. They're generally limited to that, but prior to 2006 when they changed the driveshaft the unlimited top speed was around 150.
![]() 11/16/2013 at 18:08 |

yeah gear limited or else the driveshaft would do this lol.
